A local excellence at the foot of the Castle of Brescia: come with us and discover the Vigneto Pusterla, the largest vineyard in Europe boasting a thousand-year history!
Vigneto Pusterla, a green monument on the slopes of the Cidneo hill
Gentle curves and orderly rows of vines intertwine along the northern bastions of the Castle of Brescia, one of the most important symbols of the city, and resonate with beauty.
Acknowledged as the largest productive urban vineyard in Europe with its almost four hectares, the Vigneto Pusterla is a rare example of urban agriculture and probably the only extensive cultivation in the world of Invernenga grape variety, a white grape after which the prestigious Bastione Pusterla wine is produced.

It is precisely in this wine, born among the centuries-old pergolas of the Vigneto Pusterla, that bright colors and fruity notes merge: the result is a one-of-a-kind wine delicacy in a one-of-a-kind context. The plants grown in this vineyard actually maintain their original trunk, with an age varying between 80 and 100 years, and still produce extraordinary fruits.
Fun fact: the name “ Pusterla “ comes from the door that gave access to secret passages located in the walls of castles and fortifications.
Vigneto Pusterla: a bit of history
A prestigious green monument of the city of Brescia, the Vigneto Pusterla has a very ancient history.
In 1037 Emperor Conrad II granted the ecclesiastical authorities a vast jurisdiction that included Mount Denno (now Mount Maddalena), at the time attached to the Cidneo hill. It is estimated that it was in those years that the cultivation of vines began, probably thanks to the nuns of the Royal Monastery of Santa Giulia.

Back to the more recent history, great recognitions have been given to the vineyard: from the gold medals obtained in important exhibitions and competitions throughout the 20th century until 2007, when the Slow Food association awarded the Vigneto Pusterla the title of “ Historical Heritage of Environmental Agri-food Culture “.
Since 2020, the vineyard has been owned by the Monte Rossa winery, a brand known for the production of Franciacorta DOCG wine.
