The Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo reopens to the public with a new layout of the 18th century halls and other important new features!

18th-century painting is the new protagonist at the Tosio Martinengo Art Gallery

7 rooms, restyled and embellished with works previously held in storage, and as many as 11 new acquisitions, for an intense journey through popular subject painting of the “Age of Enlightenment”.

After admiring Todeschini’s The Master’s Lesson and Pietro Bellotti’s Follower, as well as two interesting works by Faustino Bocchi, visitors will enter the new room now entirely dedicated to Giacomo Ceruti, the great protagonist of the 2023 season with an exhibition focused entirely on him.

From Raphael and the Renaissance to Hayez and Romaticism

Particularly illustrious names displayed at Pinacoteca include Canova, Hayez, Raphael, and Lotto. A collection of priceless paintings, including great works by Raphael (Madonna and Child, Angel, Christ Blessing) which have returned to Brescia after being displayed in the most important museums worldwide, including the National Gallery in London, while Pinacoteca was closed.

There is a very important section devoted to Brescian Renaissance painters, with Moretto, Romanino, Savoldo, Foppa are among the undisputed protagonists of this artistic period. In addition to paintings, the Pinacoteca also displays sculptures, jewellery, enamels, and medals.

The setting for this immense heritage is the ancient Palazzo Martinengo da Barco, built in the 1500s, which has been completely restored. The exhbition halls are decorated with great tapestries and bright velvets, which welcome visitors with an explosion of colours from blue to red, green and silver, for a surprising and engaging experience aligned with the best European museums.
